Rave at the Ranch (monthly), Watkins Glen, NY
Background
Nate from Rainbow Glowbox (whom I have played for many times) had asked my FLX Groove fellows (from VOLO and other events). Nate had asked us if we could run this one evening so that the event can continue every month, even though he wasn’t able to do it this time.
Setlist
This set may or may not be completely accurate, but it’s the best I can recall – I played variations on the same set for each event, since I didn’t have enough time to study material for three separate sets. It was some combination of these songs, in a sequence similar to this.
- Kool Moe Dee vs. Bad Boy Bill - I Go To Work (Bad Boy Bill’s Vocal Mix)
- Wishbone - Sensorama
- A Tribe Called Quest vs. Pimp Juice - Go Ahead in the Rain (Pimp Juice’s Player Paradise)
- Wishbone - 50 Grooves
- CJ Bolland - Sugar is Sweeter (Armand van Helden’s Drum and Bass mix)
- Armand van Helden - The Funk Phenomenon (Da Hool Remix)
- The Bucketheads - The Bomb (These Sounds Fall Into My Mind) (Kenny Dope mix)
- Ben Sims & Vincent Dims - Freaks
- Joey Beltram - Arena
- Markus Schulz - Drippin
- Starecase - Bitter Little Pill (Little Bit of Pill Mix)
- Paul van Dyk - For An Angel (Way Out West mix)
- BT - Somambulist (Burufunk Mix)
- Madonna - Music (whitelabel breaks mix)
- Nigel Richards - Yeah Yeah
- Green Velvet - Flash (Timo Maas’s Dirty Dub)
- Richie Hawtin - Orange Minus
- acid lose my mind
- Rhythmkillaz - Wack Ass M.F.
Reflection
There were some minor sound technical issues on the backline initially. It’s possible that there was sub-frequency being emitted too closely to the needles, but we’re not entirely sure what caused it.
Overall, this set went really well; I was happy with how things went, the cue times, and the overall technical details. It felt very smooth.
Unrelated to the performance, but I wish we had started doing promotion earlier; the turnout may have been better. It happened to occur at a time that was difficult for each of us to take the lead on promotion, because of jobs, family, prior commitments, etc. Mid summer is busy!
